Moana Lake Brunner has some fantastic things to see and do - so make sure you stay long enough to delight yourself. As well as lazing about relaxing and enjoying the peacefulness of the beautiful Lake Brunner, you can enjoy some of the great activities that it offers.

The Lake has fantastic trout fishing - some of the best in New Zealand and well-known internationally by the best anglers. You can hire a private guide or just enjoy the lake's edge. Make sure you have a licence and have checked the season.

The TranzAlpine travels daily between Christchurch and Greymouth offering a scenic trip. Travellers can stop off for three hours while the train travels onto Greymouth, or stay overnight and enjoy all that Moana has to offer.

There are a number of walks and tracks, riverbeds to scout for those elusive gems, canoe hire, a local fishing guide and boat, float plane, swimming beaches. Local catamaran charter that will exhilarate you - great for groups wanting fun. Or for the more leisurely, try the House Boat Cruise - now that does sound relaxing! Or just enjoy a coffee in a local cafe, or a beer or wine in our beer garden.

Local potters and artists are well worth a visit, so you can take home a piece of the West Coast.

Greymouth - 37 km inland up the Grey Valley


Christchurch - 2 hrs 15 minutes, over Arthurs Pass and the new viaduct system

Nelson - approx 3.5 hours

The lake and surrounding rivers and streams have some of the best brown trout fishing in the South Island.
